This is a brilliant way to explore Sydney in the cooler months – a private, sea-to-land adventure that takes in migrating whales, native wildlife, and some of the most spectacular harbour views in the country.

Suggested but highly flexible itinerary:

Your Localing Host will collect you from your hotel and accompany you to Rose Bay, where your private vessel is waiting. After boarding the sleek Axopar Spectre, set off across the harbour to Chowder Bay for a relaxed coffee and pastry with waterfront views.

Then it’s time to head through Sydney Heads for two hours of open water whale watching. From June to October, humpback whales pass along the New South Wales coast on their annual migration – and while sightings are never guaranteed, this stretch of ocean is one of the best places to try your luck. The Axopar is fast, stable and purpose-built for this kind of experience, with space for up to 10 guests.

Back inside the harbour, pause at Watsons Bay for a classic seaside lunch- fish and chips served either onshore or on board. It’s the perfect moment to take in the cliffs, the breeze, and the beauty of the harbour at its most open.

In the afternoon, cruise across to Taronga Zoo for a privately guided two-hour visit. This includes a special wildlife encounter with a koala, along with time to explore the zoo’s treetop setting and see everything from giraffes to gorillas, all with Sydney’s skyline in the background.

Return to Rose Bay by boat, with your camera roll full and your shoes (probably) a little sandy.
