A city experience with a dash of mountain charm. Get acquainted with Hobart’s fascinating history and local life, backstreets, galleries, markets and parks. Venture to kunanyi/Mt. Wellington for a nature fix with unrivalled views of Southern Tasmania and finish with a visit to the peerless MONA. It’s best to explore the museum at your own pace and return to downtown via a wonderful scenic ferry.
Suggested but highly flexible itinerary:
Be picked up from your hotel at 10 am by your expert Localing host in a premium vehicle with bottled water and local treats. Spend the morning getting acquainted with the city through the eyes of a well-informed and connected local host.
Visit local galleries, backstreet cafes and popular local haunts with the opportunity to go behind the scenes with the makers. These maker-led experiences can be personalised to suit your tastes – Zimmer Coffee, Lark Whisky, locals Breweries – let us know, we can make it happen.
Wander the historic backstreets and waterfront area of Salamanca and Battery Point. Hear about curious characters from Hobart’s past and present who have helped to shape this eclectic and culturally rich regional capital.Finish the morning with a visit to the top of kunanyi/Mount Wellington for a spectacular birds-eye-view of Southern Tasmania.
A short drive from the city, arrive at MONA for a sensational meal of seasonal, local-produce. Spend the afternoon exploring one of the country’s most iconic cultural attractions at your own pace. David Walsh’s MONA has helped to redefine Tasmania to a generation of Australians and its experimental, boundary-pushing exhibitions belong on every visitor’s list. MONA is best explored at your own pace. Special experiences and temporary exhibitions often require pre-booking. A MONA art concierge can be arranged if required (by request).
Return to the city via one of MONA’s very own, purpose-built ferries. There are no bad seats on these colourful, sea-faring artworks. Upgrade, to ride in style in the aptly-dubbed ‘Posh Pit’ (additional cost).
The walk from the ferry to most of Hobart’s best hotels is under five minutes. Please advise if you would prefer to have a host meet you on arrival to see you back to your hotel safely.
