Wominjeka Naarm – Aboriginal Melbourne Tour

Duration: 6 hours
No. of Guests: 1-10
Languages: Available in English, Spanish & French (others by request)

Walk the banks of the mighty Birrarung with a local Aboriginal host. Gain insight into one of the world’s oldest artistic traditions. Sample native bush foods and learn about the wonderfully diverse communities of Australia’s Aboriginal past and present on a fun and engaging cultural adventure.

Suggested but highly flexible itinerary:

Be picked up from your hotel at 10 am by a wonderful local host with deep roots in Melbourne. Head straight to the mighty Birrarung – the ‘river of mist and shadows’ for the chance to engage with a local Aboriginal guide and learn more about the ancestral lands of the Wurrundjeri people.

Grab some morning tea with a few distinctively native flavours – ‘bush tucker’ that’s as rarely found as it is delicious.

Head inside a local gallery specialising in Aboriginal art from around the country to learn about one of the world’s oldest artistic traditions, the role of lore and narrative in Aboriginal art and the movement’s incredible global rise.

Enjoy a fabulous local lunch with the option to visit a wonderful local restaurant specializing in bush foods, including options to try wallaby, kangaroo, crocodile and emu and plenty of delicious plant-based options (additional cost).

Spend the afternoon visiting independent, Aboriginal-owned businesses, chatting to locals about the continued contribution to Australian culture and recent changes in the social and political landscape.

Arrive back at your hotel by 4 pm.

At Localing, we value serendipity and like to leave space for adventure so our day together will be somewhat flexible. This allows us to follow your interests and embrace the chance encounters that are inevitable on a day out in a big, dynamic city like Melbourne.
